Manufacturing Laser Optics: Making optics with high laser damage threshold requires a comprehensive approach to process design and control. As metrology is integral to process design we’ve invested into both R&D and special equipment to provide our customers with unique capabilities. Some of our unique capabilities derive from a strategic relationship with Okamoto Optics Works of Yokohama Japan and Plymouth Grating Laboratory. Special resources available at Okamoto Optics include a 3.5m polishing machine and a 2-meter electron beam coating chamber with IAD. Special metrology tools include a 700-mm aperture phase measuring interferometer, Zygo NewView 6000 white light interferometric microscope. Through our partners at Plymouth Grating Laboratory we also have access to large aperture interferometry at 1053-nm, and SEM. We augment these special capabilities at AOS, with aspheric optics manufacturing and systems design and integration. Our experience along with our equipment have enabled us to develop processes which both optimize laser damage threshold while also controlling film stress and wavefront quality. This is critical to producing optics that maintain wavefront stability and film integrity in vacuum environments.

Kinematic Mounting Frames: All optics are available with kinematic mounting frames, to make installation of large optics modular. We design and manufacture according to your system requirements. We provide vacuum compatible and flexured designs to allow you to mount in any orientation while minimizing mount induced wavefront distortions. more info: opto-mechanics and mounts |

Off Axis Parabolas: AOS custom manufactures off-axis parabolas up to 800mm in size. We use large format robotic grinding and polishing to achieve exceptionally precise surfaces with low mid-spatial errors. This is critical to achieving the highest energy densities with optimized wavefront. Key features in specifying an off-axis parabola include not just specifying the wavefront in terms of Peak to Valley or RMS errors, gradient tolerances in the mid-spatial frequency region can play a dominant role in ultimately determining image quality. This is why many off-axis parabolas underperform and why we have concentrated our expertise in optimizing this critical characteristic. All off-axis parabolas may be provided with the same high performance coatings developed by Plymouth Grating Laboratory and Okamoto Optics. OAPs may be purchased at the component level, or we can provide mounted with precise alignment actuators and mounts for direct insertion into your beamline. more info: OAP data sheet technical publications robotic polishing |
